Here are just a few ideas, if you have some ideas please post comment or email

1. Dressers that do not have a repairable top. You can glue pennies or any flat object that you have enough of to the top of the dresser and then give the dresser three coats of polyurethane. Another thing to do with dressers beyond repair is to put cloth on them. Just take the knobs off of the drawers and then glue padding on the fronts of the drawers and top of dresser, then staple a beautiful piece of cloth on the drawers and top of dresser, makes for a beautiful and unique piece. Replace knobs

2. Golf Clubs, Do you have a ton of old golf clubs that you do not know what to do with. You can make lamps from them. Use your imagination and come up a unique design and then just buy a lamp kit from Wal-Mart. You can also make tables from them.

3. Old metal cabinets make great bathroom pieces. If you have one that you cannot paint or distress, just get some nice wall paper and wall paper it to match your bathroom design.

4. Antique Stand ashtrays that have the ashtray itself missing makes great bases for bedside tables or you can also make great lamps from them.Junkableshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05064645252063578409noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1862052313518658860.post-73172482982173564112011-08-20T11:16:00.000-07:002011-08-20T11:16:54.115-07:0010 Things every Antique Dealer should know when selling Antiques OnlineA lot of people think selling antiques and collectibles online is easy and for the most part it is easy. However just listing what you have to sell is just part of it, your antiques and collectibles will sell better if you know what you are selling. This is done by going online researching prices of similar items, visiting flea markets and antique shows too, Also desirability at the time you are trying to sell an item is of the utmost importance. Just because you looked something up in a book and the price says 500.00 doesn't necessarily mean your antique is worth that same 500.00. The markets fluctuate all the time. What was desirable yesterday may not be as desirable in today's markets or could be worth twice as much in today's markets. That's why researching what you are about to sell is so important.

1. Make great Titles for your antiques. Use great Keywords, keywords is so important. If a seller lists a black tea pot, and that's all they use as a title it is a very limited title and may sell someday down the road. But if another sellers does a title like example Black tea pot made in England Mid Century or whichever era this tea pot has better chances of selling with the added keywords. Here is another example of making the most of your titles - If you are selling an old lamp for example you might use “1960 Art Deco glass lamp” as a title instead of just great old lamp.

2. Be clear on your descriptions of the antique you are listing. If the antique is in poor condition make sure you put it in your description of the item. Also if the description is short, that hurts too. Sellers shouldn't be afraid to add personal touches to an ad. Like (this is such a funny item. I remember when my sister and I played with this long ago). Sometimes adding that personal touch helps a customer relate better and that helps them to decide they want fond memories too about that antique or collectible. Sometimes buyers need that extra help to make a purchase plus it shows them your human and not just another machine listing stuff.

3. Now I'd like to talk about the display of your antiques and collectibles. I can't over emphasize DISPLAY, DISPLAY, DISPLAY. Display is very important whether you’re selling online or setting up at a show. When you’re taking pictures of your antiques try to only show what you are selling. I see all the time people listing say an antique bottle on a table cluttered with stuff behind the bottle that's for sale. When doing that it takes away from the antique bottle and makes it appear as just another object amongst other stuff. If you took that same bottle against a solid color that's pleasing to the eye with nothing else in the picture, it not only highlights the antique bottle but gives it some importance and helps the value of the bottle. I personally like black backgrounds but some collectibles such as jewelry or other objects look good with light greens or pinks etc. fabric is inexpensive enough to buy a yard or two for background colors. The display of an item can make or break a sale. Have clear uncluttered pictures of the antique.

4. Ask a fair price for your item. If your vintage item is in poor condition be sure to reflect that in your price.

5. Take great pictures of your antiques and make sure you optimize the image for the web. When your images of your antiques load fast, that leaves more time for the potential buyers to spend looking at your collectibles. If your images are slow and large – most buyers will move on and go to another item. When taking pictures of your antiques think of it as if you were looking to buy the item. If you were holding something in your hand would you only look at the front? Or maybe just look at the front and back? No, you would look it over very good to make sure all sides are nice and everything is functioning properly. We are limited by the amount of pictures we can load on a page so try to show as much of an item as possible, for the buyer to feel comfortable about the antique is as we state it. So next time you are going to sell something hold it in your hand and take the pictures that might help you to decide what you show is the important parts of the object whether or not there are faults or the antique is in mint condition.

6. I have found that my items sell better and faster if I use PayPal. People seem to trust PayPal and it is faster than waiting for someone to send you a check and then waiting for the check to clear the bank before shipping.

7. List your antiques in many places. There are many Free Places to list your antiques and collectibles. Junkables.com is just one example of an online antique store that allows their members to list their antiques with no listing or seller fees of any kind. You can list antiques for sale on more than just one place at a time, and the more places you list your antiques the more potential buyers will see them. When the antique online store is free to list on, then go for it. Just make sure if you have a paypal buynow button, that you set your button to have a track inventory on it, and set the inventory to 1, this allows paypal to turn off the button as soon as the antique or collectable sells, no matter how many sites you have the antique on. ( that way you will be sure that you only sell your antique once)

8. Let people know where they can find your antiques. Post your item on Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and any other social networking site you are a member of.

9. Only charge the cost of your shipping and handling fees.

10. Be clear on where you will and will not ship to. Then pack the antique with care and mail promptly. It is good business and you want your customers to be happy and satisfied so they will spread the word.
We found a fishing tackle box inside one of the boxes as we were going through a couple of the boxes this weekend. I set the fishing tackle box aside while we went through and took pictures of the vintage glassware that I was really excited about finding. We were just about to leave because it was getting so hot and I was wanting to spend the weekend with my family, when I remembered I had not looked through the vintage fishing tackle box and thought there might be some great vintage fishing lures in it. I was knocked over when I opened it and found what was inside, - Vintage Collectible Coins - Now i am not a coin collector, but I do know Indian head nickels, steel dimes, war nickels and a bunch of Silver dollars were in there. I will be going through the coins and adding them to Junkables Antique Coins category. Here are some pictures I took of the tackle box with the vintage coins in it.
This is years of collecting and storing - it will be very interesting when we get to the boxes in the back and on the bottom of the stacks. These boxes have not been opened in years and we do not even know what is in them until we open them. It is like a Treasure Hunt every time we go there to get antiques to list. I will be posting some of the vintage collectibles we uncover as we go through the boxes, so check back often to see if we find that one of a kind collectable.
The confiscation happened in 1945 in Japan. An Army Major confiscated the drawing and brought it
back and gave it to his brother. It graced their walls for many years. Eileen took care of the man whom it was given to and he in turn gave it to her in his will. Eileen feels fortunate to have been his friend.
When she got it, she thought it had been a painting until she cleaned the original frame and found it was a stitchery art at its very best. It is all hand sewn and uses gold thread in places. She has a feeling it is very valuable and needs to know what insurance rates to keep it safe. The person who reframed it for her said it was very valuable. If anyone can help with identifying this piece of art or has any knowledge of how much it might be worth, please leave a comment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have had this vintage bottle for about 23 years. I was with my mother-in-law in her back yard when i looked down and saw a bottle half buired in the ground. Something just made me dig it up, which was not in my nature to do back when i was a 19 year old kid. But anyway I dug it up being very careful not to break it. After a lot of directions from my mother-in-law about how to get it out of the ground with the least amount of damage it finally came out with no damage at all. It did not have a chip on it. I have had this bottle setting in my china cabinet that she bought me ever since that day only taken it out to show people and on a few occassions i have taken it to antique shopes to see if they might could tell me what it was use for or what came in this bottle. No one i have ever talked to has had any idea what it could of been used for.

The design on the bottle is what makes it so unique. It is shaped like a large skinny perfume bottle but it has elephant heads and the tusks and trunks running down the bottle. The design is baked into the bottle not painted. Most antique dealers say perfume would not of come in the bottle because of the design on the outside. It is a solid color of light blue all the way through the bottle and the top looks to maybe have had a screw top but if it did it was only one ring around to screw the top on. So i quess it having that type of screw top makes it not as old as i thought, but i could be wrong about the top. The bottle had no top when i dug it up and can only guess what type of top it had.

If anyone can help me out on this antique item I would truly be appreciative. I believe it is a vintage dental tool sterilizer. I was told it was a device the dentist used to clean and sterilize their instruments. They would light the wick and let the cup get hot in order to sterilize their dental instruments.
The pictures above are the three boxes I brought home yesterday. As you can see these boxes have been stored for a long time without being moved, and have collected a lot of dust. Going through them is definitely a dirty job, but a fun one. It truly is like a treasure hunt each time we bring a load home, I can't wait to see what is inside each box. The lunchboxes were the exciting treasure we found this week, along with the china. I always made fun of my father-n-law for collecting anything and everything, but I am afraid I am falling into the trap as well. I can't wait to completely go through one box before I am opening up the other two to see what is inside.
You can't imagine the boxes in the warehouse, stacks and stacks of them. It feels like it will take a life time to go through them one at a time. I think what we have on the website http://www.junkables.com/ is from around 30 boxes.
We also uncovered a vintage dental chair. It was in the back of the old warehouse and as we moved all the boxes and large items out, we were able to take pictures of the chair. It took a forklift and two men to move it. The chair is in great condition just a little dirty. The hydraulic lift still works, we plugged it in and tested it. The dental chair and the old dental compressor would make great decorative pieces for a dental office. For additional information on these pieces just send an email to info@junkables.com. I hope everyone had a great and enjoyable holiday, I know I did. We are back to work at http://www.junkables.com and we are adding new stuff all the time, so check us out often. If you would like us to email you when we add new items just go to our home page and then click on the feedback page and put in your name and email address. We would be glad to email you updates. Next week we will be going through several new boxes from the warehouse, can't wait to see what treasures we find. I will post some of the new items we find on this blog, so stay tuned and enjoy. We had our Christmas dinner this afternoon and we are all stuffed. We had Turkey, dressing, macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole, and mashed potatoes and all kinds of other stuff. I feel like I need to walk a mile or two, but I have too much cooking to do to get ready for tomorrow. We are going to my mother-n-laws house and doing it all again. Maybe I will not eat as much tomorrow. I will be glad when all the holidays are over, as much as I enjoy them, I will be glad to get back to work and start going through the boxes. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a happy holiday. I will get them on http://www.junkables.com/ soon. We also have boxes of china, I am not sure if I should post them onto the website or not. I am afraid they will not be easy to ship because they are so fragile. I wish we could have gotten all the Christmas items onto the website before the first of December, but we will get them all on for next year. I also have to get started on all the dolls my mother-n-laws has. That was the original reason we started http://www.junkables.com/. Her collection of dolls is impressive. I will get back to work right after the holidays and we will have new content every week. Thanks again for everyone who continues to be supportive while we get http://www.junkables.com/ up and going.

Junkableshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05064645252063578409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1862052313518658860.post-78503388696426030172008-12-18T17:42:00.000-08:002008-12-19T16:20:38.356-08:00Hillbilly Family
http://www.junkables.com

OK I know these are not old, vintage or antique but they are collectible. These are for the hard core collector (just kidding); however, I do think they make great Christmas presents. The hillbilly hunter, the hillbilly farmer and the hillbilly family would be delighted over these cute pieces. Think of the fun you will have watching someone unwrap the country school bus. The true hillbilly would be grateful for something so thoughtful. Maybe because I am from the south, but I think these make great junk to set around as knickknacks.
Junkableshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05064645252063578409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1862052313518658860.post-63292733393119259812008-12-14T16:26:00.000-08:002008-12-17T20:17:05.316-08:00Boxes, boxes and more boxes

http://www.junkables.com

Just in case anyone was worried about Junkables running out of content to put on the website, I have taken some pictures of our warehouse. There are only 13 days until Christmas and we still have lots of Christmas items to put on the website (http://www.junkables.com). I wish we could have had all the vintage Christmas items on the website, but we just didn’t have the time. We hope to have everything on the site by next Christmas. We will also have all the yard sale items on the site in the next couple of months. We are working hard trying to get all the content onto the site. The Christmas angles we added to the site this week are beautiful; there are also a set of the old bubble lights and ornaments. We will continue to add new items to the site every week or so. Hope everyone has a happy holiday. This has been a good year for the Junkable's crew, even though we have only been in business for 3 months we are like family and enjoy spending time together. We have worked very hard and had a good time along the way. I hope that the coming year is as fun and enjoyable as this year has been. We are dedicated to really growing our website and perfecting it to be one of the best. We realize we have a long road ahead of us, but we are willing to put in the time. We would truly appreciate any feedback anyone would be willing to give. Just go to http://www.junkables.com and click on the feedback page. We are currently working on our calendar page and would like to have it finished by the end of this year for 2009. We will have lots of dates for the upcoming flea markets and events. If you would like for us to email you when we have gather all the dates just let us know and we would be happy to send you an update. Thanks again and have a great holiday.Junkableshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05064645252063578409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1862052313518658860.post-54446855087979693782008-12-09T17:19:00.000-08:002008-12-10T09:27:52.358-08:00Junkables.comI have not gotten any new boxes this week. I am still trying to sort through the last six boxes. It his been a major task trying to unpack everything and then logging it on the database for the website (http://www.junkables.com/) and then repacking it and numbering each box as I go. I am going to take the six boxes I have now back and get six new ones. I will have new ones this weekend to go through. Can't wait to see what treasure I find in the next box.Junkableshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05064645252063578409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1862052313518658860.post-65971881671075665512008-12-08T17:49:00.000-08:002009-11-08T09:23:10.916-08:00Vintage Christmas Decorations
http://www.junkables.com/vintage_christmas_decorations.php

http://www.junkables.com/vintage_christmas_decorations.php

I still think the cat Christmas ornament is my favorite piece so far.
